For decades the Peninsula Peace and Justice Center (PPJC) has been working to make our community, state, nation, and world a more peaceful and just place. Whether they are educating us through innovative television programs, live workshops/lectures/films, or through their amazing web site, PPJC has been the critical hub for information for hundreds of thousands of people locally and around the world. From December 6th - 10th Reach And Teach will donate 50% of the sale price of The Thirty Day Peace Diet (a wonderful book) to PPJC.

Our team decided that we wanted to give people shopping for holiday gifts a way to give back to organizations like PPJC at the same time. We're calling it Reach and Teach's 25 Days of Transformation. Last week, thanks to friends of Reach And Teach (folks like you) we donated to Kids Can Make A Difference through sales of Ivy Homeless in San Francisco and the week before that we donated to Girls for Gender Equity through sales of Girls Are Not Chicks to support their special project to provide relief to folks in Rockaway New York who had suffered losses due to Superstorm Sandy.

PPJC QuoteThere are so many wonderful organizations who we consider our partners in peacemaking and PPJC has been one of the longest and best partners. We manage web operations for PPJC, have been guests on their Other Voices TV program, have co-sponsored events with them including the amazing Woody Guthrie singalong we had here at our shop, and have always been in awe of their ability to do so very much on such tiny tiny budgets.

We invite you to give PPJC's budget a little boost while also getting a fantastic book for yourself or to give as a gift. We love this book because in practical and very approachable ways it introduces practices that can simultaneously develop both a life-long sense of inner peace as well as peace in the world. Here's how Bob and Judy Cranmer, authors of the book, describe their book:

The Thirty Day Peace Diet

Peace is a state of mind. This book was written to help all of us achieve that state of mind. Beginning in the Summer of 1986, we became actively and deeply involved in a personal search for peace. We joyfully joined millions of others around the planet in the World Instant of Cooperation on December 31, 1986. We also participated in the next worldwide event, Harmonic Convergance, on August 16 and 17, 1987. And we eagerly awaited World Peace Day on December 31, 1987.

In the meantime, we meditated and visualized peace.... One day Bob said, "What can people do in between these major events to further peace on a daily basis?" We quickly came up with the idea of a series of meditations and actions dedicated to inner and outer peace. Since our culture is so interested in diets and self-improvement, and since it takes about 30 days to establish a habit, the idea came to us to do a 30-day peace diet.

30 days dedicated to tranquility, both privately and publicly, could be a wise investment for our time.

In 30 days, you can lose pounds of world-weariness, bottled-up emotions, and feelings of helplessness and despair. You can feel empowered in the knowledge that every day you are making a valuable contribution to world peace.

And... since it is the holiday season, here's a reprise of a program we did with PPJC last year. Learn what we mean by "Fair Trade" and mindful gift giving on this program.
