Overview
We spoke with parents and educators across the United States and one of the most frequent requests we got was for books, activities, lesson plans, and other tools to help children learn to deal with conflict in non-violent and effective ways.
We're thrilled to make this book, published by Educators for Social Responsibility, available to our customers.
The book is written by William J. Kreidler and Sandy Tsubokawa Whittall
Early Childhood Adventures in Peacemaking is a unique activity guide designed to help early childhood caregivers teach young children effective, nonviolent ways to resolve conflicts. It provides games, music, art, drama, and storytelling activities that help children master key skills such as communication, cooperation, the expression of feelings, anger management, and appreciating diversity. In addition, it contains extensive discussion of observing children's play; dealing with bullying and name-calling; implementing an anti-bias curriculum; and involving parents and guardians.
"The new edition of Early Childhood Adventures in Peacemaking is a springboard to building community and resolving conflicts among children. Interspersed with lessons and activities are a wealth of insights that transform challenging situations into teachable moments. This is a rich, essential, user-friendly resource for new or experienced teachers and caregivers. What Dr. Spock and Selma Fraiberg were in our parents' homes, this will be in our own classrooms: well thumbed, studied, used." - Emily White, Ed.D., Bank Street College of Education.
