Overview
Our friend told us "I think you're going to love this music." She was right. So, we're telling you... "We think you're going to love this album!"
Listen to excerpts from this album.
Reach And Teach says:
Friends often tell us they've got a book, a CD, or a DVD that we simply HAVE TO carry... and they are often right. We got in touch with Rob Katz after a friend told us about his music and he promptly sent us a CD. I promptly put it on my stack of items to look at and listen to as time permitted. Quite a while later, Rob sent a note with a link to a YouTube video, also asking if I had listened to the CD. I hadn't. Check out this video and guess what I did next.
Yep - I got right in touch with Rob and told him that I'd be listening to the CD right away. I popped it in our car CD player on our way south and Derrick listened for a few minutes and then stopped playing Sudoku so he could pay full attention. "What is that?" he asked, as he listened to the track called 'Slave to Pharoah'.
Slave to Pharoah Lyrics
When you hate your work you do it anyway
You're a slave to the Pharoah
Swallow your pride just to get your pay
You're a slave to the Pharoah
But when you follow your heart's desire
whatever that may be
that's the time that you begin
to break the pharoah's chains
and be free
When you care a lot what people think of you
You're a slave to the Pharoah
Act the way you think they want you to
You're a slave to the Pharoah
Chorus:
When the world's in a mess you think nothing can be done
You're a slave to the Pharoah
Don't bother to fight the battle can't be won
You're a slave to the Pharoah
Chorus:
But when you follow your heart's desire
To change the world you see
that's the time that you begin
to break the Pharoah's chains
to break the Pharoah's chains
to break the Pharoah's chains
and be free
Our conversation continued after we finished listening to this song...
"That's the next CD we're going to be selling." I answered. And now we are. It goes from terrific humor to haunting spirituality, from rock-and-roll to country, from serious socio-political thought to blah, blah, blah (we LOVED that one).
Here's how Rob Katz describes the album on the back of the CD cover:
This CD is a mix of original songs, sung by various voices in various styles - folk, blues, rock, country, and ballads. Many were inspired by Jewish holidays and stories, some written for Jewish musicals. But these songs are for everybody and the things they deal with are universal. The intention is to entertain and to tell the truth. A lot of the songs are related to the theme of renewal in its many forms, hence the title. Feel free to sing along!
