Congressional and Obama Administration spinelessness and surplus powerlessness allowed the medical profiteers to marginalize "single payer." A campaign that emphasized the ethical spiritual dimension of caring, and acknowledged what is legitimate in people's distaste of unresponsive government bureaucracies, and that used a more empathic title for universal caring than "single payer" might be more successful when we seek to reform whatever comes out of this year's flawed debate.

With Netanyahu ready for negotiations with no out come other than to prolong the Occupation, it's time for Obama to present an American proposal-and use his charisma and smarts to sell it to the American, Israeli and Palestinian public (reaching over the heads of the cynical realists and extremists on both sides).
