Craig was just a little guy when the Stonewall Riots broke out in New York City and although other kids were calling him gay at the time he had no clue they were right! Well, a bit older Craig would never have imagined the progress LGBTQIA+ people would make since those drag queens told the police that they were fed up with being harassed and beaten up simply for being who they were.
Today, across the world, and fabulously here in San Mateo County, June is PRIDE month and there are lots of celebrations happening and Reach And Teach will be there (Craig will have a big smile on his face, promise!)
Let’s Get Together at the San Mateo County Fair! PRIDE Day June 2nd
Join us for the Progress/Pride Flag Raising ceremony at 11:30am and then spend the day enjoying all the exhibits, rides, musical performances, drag story time and more throughout the fair! There will be a wonderful group of PRIDE exhibitors, vendors, and resources in the FIESTA HALL, all day long. That’s where Reach And Teach will be with books and Pride Swag for perusal and purchase. SAN MATEO PRIDE – In the City of San Mateo – Start with the Parade, stay for the Fair! June 8th
The parade will start at 2nd and B Street. Click here for details. The route opens for spectators at 9:30am. The fair opens at 11am and runs until 5pm. It is a FREE and SOBER event, great for families. There will be dozens of booths with vendors, resources, community organizations, lots of pride swag, GREAT food from a variety of food trucks, including Mr. Softee, AND, Reach And Teach will be there with a great selection of Pride products including books, buttons, flags, jewelry, and stickers.
SAN CARLOS PRIDE Saturday June 15th
Come to Burton Park from 11am to 2pm for music, art projects, and more to celebrate diversity and inclusion! At the various Pride events we will be at in the next couple of weeks, we will be inviting guests to fold origami peace cranes in a rainbow of colors and to write the name of someone who symbolizes Love and/or LGBTQ+ Pride in their lives. You are invited to do the same whenever you come into our shop. These cranes will be displayed in our store as an installation of Love and Pride in June and semi-permanently throughout the year.
EVERY CITY AND TOWN IN SAN MATEO COUNTY FLYING PRIDE/PROGRESS FLAG IN JUNE!
Thanks to the work of the San Mateo County LGBTQIA+ Commission over the past five years every city and town in San Mateo County will fly the Progress/Pride Flag at their town and city halls during the month of June. Wherever you live in the county please thank your local officials for voting to fly the flag and check their web sites to see if there’s a special flag raising ceremony you can attend.
